The Loft Gallery presents

For the months of November and December 2019

Feature Artist  Melissa Baron

I have studied and practiced art for the last 16 years. My interest was piqued at a creative writing camp for teenagers where I was enrolled in a cartooning class. My initial reluctance gave way to delight, and this eventually led to me studying art at the University of Alberta. I am fortunate to combine my love of art with my other passion, as I teach art full time at Beaumont Composite High School.

I have a dedicated studio practice that balances technical study and creative investigation. I take classes from local artists and I have studied for three summers at Julian Ashton Art School in Sidney, Australia, a classical atelier workshop. This summer I will be traveling to Philedalphia to study at Studio Incammenati for their Master Portrait Painting class. In my creative practice I work intuitively with images from my daily life, integrating symbolism and text. My work is varied but generally combines oil painting with charcoal and chalk drawing or colour washes and drawing over collographs. I also enjoy plein air watercolour painting when I travel.

The Loft Gallery also provides a home for the Gift Gallery which presents a selection of original gift items.

The Gift Gallery features affordable, distinctive artwork for those special occasions and gifts. We regularly offer jewellery, sculpture, cards, ornaments and small paintings.
