The Student Show features art from students in Grades 10, 11 and 12,
attending an accredited school / program 
in Strathcona County

 Opportunity for:

  • your art to be for sale and exhibited publicly
  • your work to be exhibited in our ASSC Student Art Show, Competition and Sale. Award winning selected works will move into the Strathcona County Gallery 501 for an approximate 5 week Salon Series Show.
  •  all submissions to be juried for individual prize money for Best in Show, First place in each grade, and possible category prizes. Prize monies generously provided by Strathcona County Special Event Grant, Public Art Department and County Clothesline Foundation. 

Partnering with Strathcona County and providing these opportunities, we celebrate our local youth's talent and hope to empower them to pursue their skills, passion and dreams. 

Planning now with Covid precautions in mind:

  • The physical show will hopefully be open to family, friends and the public with the current Covid restrictions in place.
  • Drop-off art dates and times will be scheduled for students in the days preceding the physical show.

    WHO CAN ENTER?

    Grade 10, 11, 12 Home Schooled and Special Ed. students attending an accredited school/program in Strathcona County.


    There is no artist-entry fee for this show.

    STUDENT SHOW REGISTRATION

    Next year's show will be offered as a physical show unless pandemic restrictions are still present.  Instructions for an online show will be added if necessary. Image requirements and the info needed to be sent in are explained below. Presentation requirements are the same and are also listed below. 


    Hanging hardware
    : work must be hung by a hook, we have a new show panel system, no pegboard.

    PART 1

    HOW AND WHEN DO I ENTER?  

    • Art is entered online using this website, please click Student Art Show Registration
    • Students enter starting December 20, 2022 up to and including April 15th, 2023
    • Yes, you can register on weekends.
    • You will receive an email confirmation of your registration. This email will be your main contact method. 
    • For an ONLINE show there are additional steps (to be determined closer to date)
    WHAT CAN I ENTER?
    • Two pieces of 2D or 3D art. You choose the medium.
    • All art must be original - no reproductions, can be created at home or in school
    • Art that is created in class is accepted but the instructor must not have physically assisted in the creation. The exception to this rule is for the Special Education classes whereby it is understood instructor assistance can be allowed. 
    • Photography and computer altered original photography allowed
    • Art must have been created in the last 2 years 
    • Art can be for sale, or just for exhibition.

          PART 2

          HOW DO I ENTER THE ONLINE SHOW?

          • Fill in the registration entry page with all info requested. Follow the hints and use proper grammar as this info makes your Art Labels
          • Take an image of artwork. MIN 1500 KB and MAX 20 MB
          • Image must be good quality, in focus, highest resolution you can provide, not have flash points or shadows, have background distractions removed and no frame visible
          • Provide in .jpg or .jpeg format
          • 3D art, please send in 2 views, remove any background distractions
          • 2D art, one image without the frame showing, cropped to image only
          • Rename your image, save it on your computer, right click on the image and Rename as instructed below. At the same time crop it to remove background/frame, distractions. 
          • " Image Title, Artist Full Name, School, Grade, Medium, Sale Price (if applicable)  i.e.  "Jasper Lake", Ross Bob, ABJ, grade 10, pastel, $100
          • Images not adhering to these parameters cannot be judged and will not be permitted
          • ASSC Jurors will jury by image only if we have an online show only
          • Deliver your art to the AJ Ottewell Centre on the date requested, details to be sent to you after registration.

          Winning Art in the Student Art Show will be exhibited in the Gallery 501

          • The Art Society show will run May 5-7th. 2023 for that one weekend in the AJ Ottwell building. Following that...
          • The winning art from the Art Society show will be picked up by the County after the ASSC show and students will be contacted and advised by the County representatives. Gallery 501 Salon Show runs for approximately 5 weeks sometime in May/June 2023.
          • Whether the show is online or not, and your art is selected and wins a prize, they will contact you and make arrangements for you to drop off/pick up your art after The Gallery 501 show is over.
