GETTING INTO THE STUDIO - 4 SESSION

    WITH NANCY CORRIGAN

Think About Your Attractors, Express Them and Integrate Digital Media

Warm up your thoughts and ideas for this session of four mornings. The other part is how to ‘fit in’ your time to paint when not doing a scheduled class session. We’re going to have some FUN and be good to ourselves!!! Painting can be a friend and not a foe!

*Bring digital media devices such as your cell phone, I pad or laptop for taking images of what we see around us randomly and catching moments without thinking about specific results.  These captures ‘moments’ can bring up passion quickly! This is frequent in lifestyles now so we are going to go enhance our creativity by integrating this into our thinking and doing art. How do we use our sensitivities? Bringing it into the digital as a human experience will let us think and feel more this way and hold it or carry that way of thinking with you in your daily life. Allow your sensitivity to keep growing.

Whether you are painting in acrylics and/or oils, have many or small amounts of experience and skills, this session will emphasize, ‘where you take your inspiration or your sensitivity and how.’

    CREATING EXPRESSIVE WATERCOLOUR BOTANICS

    Instructor - Allison Argy-Burgess

Students will create gestural speed sketches from supplied photographs and a variety of real flowers, and will be encouraged and inspired to move away from ‘literal’ or ‘exact’ representations to more expressive interpretations. The goal is to create the impression or expression of a flower, not a faithful rendering. It will be a fun class focused on free and open creative exploration of flowers using watercolours.

Using your quick sketches as a starting point, we will explore the delicate beauty and diversity of flowers through many traditional and modern watercolour techniques. Students will be encouraged to step back from their reference materials when actually painting each piece, developing a trust in their own perceptions and style.

We will go big, we will go small and we will laugh while we are doing it all.
    For experienced watercolourist.

    INTERIOR AND STILL LIFE COMBO

    IN ACRYLIC OR OIL

    Cheryl Peddie – Instructor

Your home is a treasure trove of colorful moments that are worthy of painting! Whether it's a still life, or view across your sunny living room, we'll bring it to life in oils or acrylics. The combination of still life and interiors keys in on a few important ‘seeing skills’. First, still life allows us a way to study light and shadow patterns in a more controlled setting, than for example, within a landscape; this makes it easier to study reflected light, halftones, highlights, and cast shadows etc.

We’ll also study angles, proportions, and learn how to measure out  your scene, to get the composition you want. No more disappointment after drawing for hours, because you realize something won’t ‘fit’ on the canvas!

Finally, interiors and still life also works and expands your ability to render perspective. We’ll talk about the different types of perspective and learn how to draw those tricky angles more accurately.

We’ll discuss the importance of value, temperature, saturation, edges and planes. Please bring a selection of photos of any interior setting that includes some sort of still life. Examples could include a bedroom dresser with perfume bottles displayed; a living room with books on a coffee table; a side table with lamp and coffee cup. We will do a series of small exercises the first day, then work on a larger painting the second day. I will help you choose which photo(s) will suit your skill level and interest.

    SMALL ABSTRACTED LANDSCAPES

    Vern Busby   - Instructor

What is Abstracted landscape? A personal opinion with Verne Busby.

The workshop will concentrate on enlarging our visual perception by looking critically at the natural landscape before us. Paintings will develop with concentration on simplifying form, and tone while taking advantage of spontaneous forceful brushwork. Throughout the day I will give brief “painting demos” relating to the topic of the day. You may work in oils or acrylics. One on one interaction with all students is emphasized. A daily synopsis will follow at the end of each class. All painters are welcome to work at their own pace. Visit Vern’s website to see samples of his works and bio/resume. www.vbusby.com
