    ACRYLIC POURING - BEGINNER

     Norma Callicott - Instructor

       Learn how to make abstract acrylic pours in this one day workshop filled with color and fun!  We will experiment and explore the various techniques involved in acrylic pouring. In this “Sampler” workshop you will create several works using many different methods, pouring compound recipes and tools. We will explore together and learn together and will have a ball doing it! Norma will give out handouts at the workshop with pouring medium recipes and web links. She will also provide some tools and supplies.

    APPROACHES TO ACRYLIC LANDSCAPE PAINTING

    with Brian Buckrell  

    This three day acrylic workshop will expose students to strong fundamentals for planning and developing an acrylic landscape painting. It is designed for the serious beginner (with acrylic experience) to the intermediate painter interested in strengthening approaches to planning interpreting the landscape. A well planned foundation is the basis on which a more intuitive (loose) finish is accomplished.  See poster below for further information

    ACRYLIC POURING – INTERMEDIATE

    In this one day workshop, we will explore more advanced techniques in acrylic pouring.  We will be trying some new methods that will create some fabulous works!  Pre-requisite: previous Acrylic Pouring workshop or experience with acrylic pouring.  Participants should be familiar with basic pouring methods.  Norma will not be instructing how to mix paint, so participants should bring pre-mixed paint (see supplies list).  Norma will provide some materials, handouts and web links.

    PAINTING PORTRAITS - 6 WEEK SESSION  

    IN ACRYLIC OR OIL  - WITH TERRIE SHAW

    Terrie’s workshop offers step by step, easy, fun, portrait painting. She will share lots of her own secrets that she has learned along the way!

    Terrie will guide you through: canvas prep, composition, how to pick just the right photo for your painting, explore various sketching methods when painting your portrait on canvas, block-ins using three values, skin tones, backgrounds, and finishing touches.

    Please note: The instructor uses Golden Open Acrylics, but oils would work great too. This class welcomes people with all levels of sketching ability!

    OIL PAINT AND COLD WAX MEDIUM

     WITH DEE POISSON  

    Cold Wax Painting can be used in ALL types of painting styles, including landscape, abstract, still life.... anything from realism or abstraction, Experimentation, texture and the physicality of paint layers is the what Dee loves most about working with cold wax.

    Cold Wax medium is a dense paste, and lends itself to creating textures within a painting and allows for expressive brushmarks and the ability to carve into paint layers with palette knives. Cold Wax also gives oil colors a beautiful translucent quality, layered lightly working with transparent paints; a seductive surface similar to encaustic paintings can be achieved.

    WHIMISICAL PAINTINGS IN OIL OR ACRYLIC

    Indulge your creativity with a colourful adventure in art!   Learn how to see things from a more imaginative perspective, how to come up with ideas, and how to turn them into whimsical images. Your idea will be planned, sketched and refined on paper before you begin painting. We’ll use composition, value, colour and paint quality to take you from concept to a colourful whimsical painting. It will be a personal and relevant expression of you!

    Colour is one of the great joys of painting yet many artists do not truly understand how to create good colour. You will learn key elements to making great colour.

    CREATE A BETTER PAINTING – 6 weeks

     With Margret Klappstein   

    This course will outline some of the basic principles and elements of good art and compositional tools to make a better painting while creating your own masterpiece.

    Margaret will be paying particular attention to creating a solid beginning. The initial block-in of compositional shapes can have an enormous effect on the progress of that painting; it can flow relatively smoothly or be a struggle all the way through.

    Create better paintings: by learning some of the principles and elements that make a painting better.  In this class you will cover some of the abstract principles of design and methods used to achieve them such as line, color, visual perspective (linear, aerial, value and color) and apply them to your own paintings. 

    This workshop is open to all levels.  There will be plenty of one on one instruction with time for positive and encouraging conversation.

    MIXED MEDIA WORKSHOP LEVEL II

    With Doris Charest

    Abandon yourself to exploration again.  Come to create paintings that dazzle and amaze.  Mixed media is a way of painting that combines acrylic painting with collage and other experimental techniques. We will make wonderfully subtle surfaces, create textures, and paint our own handmade papers.  The techniques we learn will enhance those learnt in level I.  We will learn even more techniques than before.  Anyone with some painting experience is welcome. Composition for abstract and semi-abstract paintings will be discussed. Most of all, we will have fun again.

    PASTELS - 4 WEEK SESSION  

    With Joyce Boyer

    Pastels are one of the most immediate and satisfying mediums to work in. They can produce intense, vivid colours or soft and subtle shades. In this workshop you will be able to experience different techniques using colour and composition that will add atmosphere and depth to your paintings. There will be demos and plenty of one on one instruction.  Joyce will demo on Sanded paper and Suede Board.  Whether you are just beginning or an intermediate pastelist you will be able to develop your skills in this class and create a good working foundation for continuing your work at home.   Catch the enthusiasm of pastel and work on your own reference material in this class or use the picture being demonstrated. No previous experience is necessary.

    This course is designed for those individuals who have already mastered the basics of working in watercolour.  Students will learn to enhance the freshness in their work by experimenting with new ideas and alternative painting techniques.  There will be demonstration and class discussion but students will be encouraged to explore their own personal direction through individualized instruction.  Previous experience in the watercolour is required for this course.

    ACRYLIC LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP

    With Randy Hayashi

    The focus of this workshop is to create a compelling landscape painting with acrylic paint and working from a photo(s). We will explore the importance of design and composition before painting and how to simplify what you see in your reference photo. This will involve sketching and trying different value studies with pencil and paper.

    The goal is also to expand the participants understanding of acrylic painting and to encourage expressive use of color and to share an array of tips and techniques.
