Artist Biography
Art is storytelling. It travels. It’s a journey from where we began to what brought us to where we are, with the promise of great things just down the road. I have adored nature and art my whole life and I love nothing more than to be outside, listening to the bees and feeling the sun and wind on my face, absorbing the beauty around me. Nature’s palette often provides the colourful inspiration for many of my artistic endeavours, and I LOVE colour. I am fascinated with colour and how different materials can come together to make an image or invoke a feeling. As a fiber artist and photographer, I explore the relationship between emotion and the natural world, that which lives outside of human control – sunsets, storms, wind, clouds, shadows, colour, bugs, NATURE.
As the world speeds up and technology takes over every facet of our lives, Nature speaks to something primal inside of us, which is why a sunset can take our breath away. When we turn off the constant noise and flash of social media, when we put down the remote and shut off the computer, when we turn off our ringers and open the door to the outside, to Nature, we are instantly calmed. We are instantly tuned in to the smell of the air, the caw of the crow, the intensity of the colours around us. Now take that a step further – go out to the country, to where there are no honking horns, sirens or ambient house noises – and something awakens in our soul. It reminds us that we can breathe deeply, calmly. We can sit and enjoy watching a spider build its web for an hour or see a bird flying by reflected in a puddle. We can touch the grasses and smell the earth and flowers. And we remember hope, and the feeling of being so incredibly small, a spec in the universe, and yet so lovingly connected to everything and everyone at the same time…
THIS feeling, this emotion, evoked by that place in our soul that still remembers Nature and her effect on us, this is what I want my art to bring to people – this sense of hope, this calm silence and interconnectedness, the beauty of the world that takes your breath away.
