We’ll discover how watercolour and Yupo work together to create loose and vibrant paintings.  We’ll explore reductive painting and see how pigments react to each other on this synthetic paper.  We’ll let the paint do the work and drop colour into wet washes, tipping our paper to create wonderful effects that will be the basis for landscape painting.

The workshop will be spent getting used to the paper and it’s unique qualities - we’ll do a series of small paintings (6 x 6”) exploring drawing techniques, washes, layering and how to create an exciting painting from a wet in wet background.  We’ll also practice lifting paint to create wonderful lights and textures.

In the afternoon we will work from your reference material to create a finished piece using some of the techniques from the morning session.  I will give individual help with composition and execution as needed.  At the end of the session I will talk about how to finish your work properly and alternatives too framing.                 Some watercolor painting experience is a bonus but not necessary.
