Beginner Abstracts – “Painting with an Abstract Lens”

In this beginner workshop, we will learn what makes an abstract painting interesting and will go through a very organic painting process together, putting finishing touches on your paintings at the end of class. You will learn the elements of abstracts, how to create history and layers, and how to create various textures. You will also learn how to prep the substrate so that the abstracts have texture before the paint even goes down. You will also be experimenting with transparent colours versus heavier body colours and learning where they are best used. We will be painting four 8X10 birch panels so you have a series of works by the end of the workshop. The prepped substrates take 24 hours to dry, so the instructor will provide all prepped substrates to students (birch panels) for an additional supply fee of $20. The artist's private stash of stencils will also be available to use if you don't have any. In addition to the live class, all students will receive an extensive handout of what we did so you can move forward in your abstract journey with all the notes and tools we used.

**Please note that if you would rather rent the supplies to be used, you can rent them for a fee of $150 to rent all supplies and show up with no supplies at all, just your art clothing!
