STUDENT SHOW REGISTRATION

This next years show in 2021 will be offered as  an online show and hopefully as a physical show depending on the Covid situation. Final instructions will be made closer to the date.

Instructions for the online image requirements and the info needed to be sent in are explained below. Presentation requirements are the same and are also listed below. 

Hanging hardware: work must be hung by a hook, we have a new show panel system, no pegboard.


WHEN IS THE SHOW?

Friday:    May 6th,2022, 7 pm – 9 pm      

No Reception if Covid restrictions are still in place. Appointment bookings may be offered                                                                     

Saturday:  May 7, 2022, 12 am – 4 pm

Sunday:     May 8th, 2022, 12 am - 4 pm

Family, friends and the public are welcome. Please come in your cohort groups, stay together as you view the artwork, and adhere to any covid precautions we have in place.

WHO CAN ENTER?

  • Grade 10, 11, 12 and Special Ed. students attending an accredited school/program in Strathcona County 
  • There is no artist-entry fee for this show.
  • All participants are encouraged to attend the show observing Covid precautions


Part 1-

HOW AND WHEN DO I ENTER?  Artists Register using the Entry Form at the bottom 

  • Art is entered online using this website. The link is at end of this information
  • Students enter starting December 20, 2021 up to and including April 15th, 2022
  • Yes, you can register on weekends.
  • You will receive a confirmation of your registration
  • Closer to the show a more detailed explanation of the show will be sent to registrants
  • Covid will dictate how we present this show and any restrictions will be explained closer to the date
  • For the ONLINE portion there are additional steps


WHAT CAN I ENTER?

  • ONE piece of 2D or 3D art. You choose the medium.
  • All art must be original - no reproductions, can be created at home or in school
  • Art that is created in class accepted but the instructor must not have physically assisted in the creation. The exception to this rule is for the Special Education classes whereby it is understood instructor assistance can be allowed. 
  • Photography and computer altered original photography allowed
  • Art must have been created in the last 2 years 
  • Art can be for sale, for SCAAA submission and/or just exhibition.


If Covid is still a concern and county regulations do not allow a physical show,  there will be just an ONLINE show.

Part 2-

HOW DO I ENTER THE ONLINE SHOW?

  • Fill in the registration entry page with all info requested. Follow the hints and use proper grammar as this info makes your Art Labels
  • Take an image of artwork
  • Image must be good quality, in focus, highest resolution you can provide, not have flash points or shadows, have background distractions removed and no frame visible
  • Provide in .jpg or .jpeg format
  • 3D art, please send in 2 views, remove any background distractions
  • 2D art, one image without the frame showing, cropped to image only
  • Rename your image, save it on your computer, right click on the image and Rename as instructed below. At the same time crop it to remove background/frame, distractions. 
  •            " image title, artist full name, school, grade, medium, Sale price                     (if applicable)  i.e.        "Jasper Lake", Ross Bob, ABJ, grade 10, pastel, $100

  • Images not adhering to these parameters cannot be judged and will not be permitted
  • ASSC Jurors and Strathcona County Annual Art Acquisition will jury by image only if we have an online show only


HOW DO I PRESENT MY PHYSICAL ARTWORK FOR PRESENTATION?

    (providing we have a physical show during Covid precautions)

** School teachers will be advised prior of the time to arrive to drop off their art on May 4th. Schedule to be determined closer to date.

  • 2D art must be dry, labelled on the back and have a hanging device that will work with a hook
  • 3D work must be dry, labelled on the bottom and able to be displayed on a flat surface without support
  • Teachers will have labels available.
  • You can also download one HERE ART LABEL   OR from the tab called Art Label from the Menu on the left.


ART SIZE AND REGISTRATION

  • 2D art maximum outside dimensions framed or unframed – 26”x38” or 1000 sq. inches 
  • 3D art –same size restrictions 
  • Each school may enter 3 oversized pieces – up to 36-48” or 1728 sq inches.
  • Maximum 150 pieces of art will be registered 
  • No late registrations will be accepted


How will my art be delivered?

If Covid is an Issue:

  • There will be separate days and times for the schools and teachers to deliver the art to our building   590 Broadmoor Blvd, AJ Ottewell Center                                                                                                               
  • Schools will be notified of their time slot to deliver


If Covid is not an issue, there will be one day for delivery of all art.

** Schools will be advised by email. Decision to be made closer to the date.


DO I NEED TO FRAME MY 2D ART?

  • Though it is not mandatory, framed work and canvasses must have suitable wire and screws for hanging. Wire and screws must be heavy enough to support the art.
  • Foam core and board paintings will need a wire or D ring to be hung

   Due to new display panels, a hanging apparatus must be present.

This is not a peg board system, a hook is used to hang.


WHEN WILL I KNOW IF MY ART HAS BEEN SELECTED AS A PRIZE WINNER?

  • Student Show prizes will be announced by email Friday May 6th, 2022 
  • If your art is a Prize winner and we have a physical reception, we would love for you to attend to receive your package.


WHEN IS ART PICKED UP

Art submitted to the ASSC show and not sold to the public or selected by the SCAAA (County Acquisition program) will be picked up on Sunday May 1st after 4pm by your Teacher from your school 


Art submitted and chosen by the Strathcona County Art Acquisitions program:

All art selected for the County Art Acquisition (SCAA) will be picked up by Strathcona County Staff for display in the "Salon Series" show in the Gallery @ 501. Dates to be Announced

If the Art Society show is online, and your art is selected for the SCAA, they will contact you and make arrangements to pick up your art.


ASSC DISCLAIMER

The Art Society of Strathcona County is not responsible for any damage to art left for the show. We will be carefully handling and displaying the art but it is left at students’ risk                                                                    


When registering for the ASSC Art Show, you can also register for the Strathcona County Annual Art Acquisition, either for purchase or Loan for a Year programs.

Strathcona County’s Annual Art Acquisition – Youth Category (SCAAA)

 Annual Art Acquisition Program | Strathcona County

You can choose to submit your work for purchase by the County, or for loan to the County for one year.

Art chosen by the SCAAA will be displayed in the Salon Series Show at the Gallery 501.  (501 Festival Avenue, Sherwood Park) .     Dates to be Announced.

Only original art will be considered for the Collection. You must be a resident of Strathcona County to enter the County SCAAA. Note: different requirement to the ASSC show

The framing requirements for the SCAAA – Youth Category are the same as for the Student Show.

SCAAA selected art will be publicly announced by the County directly to the artists.

Art selected for the SCAAA will be picked up by the County after the show and Students will be contacted and advised by the County representatives.




WHO JURIES THE SHOW?

Different jurors will adjudicate ASSC Show and Strathcona County Annual Art Acquisition entries.

Art entered in both ASSC and SCAAA are eligible for ASSC prizes.

Student Show art is adjudicated by grade and subject/medium.



HOW DOES THE SOCIETY PROTECT MY PERSONAL INFORMATION?


ASSC Collection and Use of Personal Information

This information is collected for the purpose of organizing the ASSC Student Art Competition, Show and Sale. When the show is over and all prize and art sales’, cheques are issued, the personal-contact information on show documents and in ASSC and Show Committee computers will be shredded/deleted.

If you entered art in the Strathcona County Annual Art Acquisition, your personal-contact information will be shared with the Art Collection Advisory Committee and Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture staff, as you are registering for SCAAA when you register for the Student Show.
