Our general meetings are for members and anyone interested in learning about the Art Society of Strathcona County - all are welcome!

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. All current members will be emailed meeting information (including location) prior to each meeting. If you are not a member and wish to attend, please contact us for information.

Meetings for Board Members are held on the first Wednesday of each month, from 7:00pm until approximately 8:30 pm. If you are not a member and wish to attend, please contact us for information.

Everything But the Bagel Pop-Up Art & Craft Show

Members of the Art Society will create unique items for this one of a kind sale, featuring pottery, paintings, wood carvings, creative glass, jewelry, fibre arts, photography and more.  You won't want to miss this exciting event! 

Our "Everything But the Bagel" show and sale ties in beautifully with our July feature artists in the Loft Gallery.  It is a wonderful event that allows us to bring people together, through a shared curiosity of the arts!  Enjoy a lovely summer day at the Red Barn, meet the artists, and bring home something unique to brighten someone's day.

Workshop with Mianna Laugesen - Introduction to Alcohol Ink

In this one afternoon workshop, we will start with the basics of how to work with alcohol inks. This class will introduce alcohol inks to create abstract artworks for those in the beginner or intermediate stage of knowledge. Joins us as we learn how the inks flow and how to manipulate the inks to the best advantage, how to create barriers for the ink to flow around and how to gain the most from the composition. The class will learn to use various surfaces, such as ceramic tile and synthetic paper.

Watercolour Techniques Workshop with

Terrie Shaw

Chapter One:  In this workshop, you will create your own beautifully curated reference book to keep essential painting techniques close at hand. You will complete 24 pages of practical tools designed to support your creative practice across a range of painting mediums.  Learn how to organize and balance the pages in your book using templates provided with this workshop.  More topics include: Colour Wheel varieties, Colour Charts, One and Two Point perspective, Circular perspective, People in perspective. Terrie Shaw invites both beginners and advanced artists to paint along with her.  (Part two of this workshop will be offered January 21 to March 4 of 2027.)

Workshop with Francis Marte- Winter Landscape in Watercolour

In this two day workshop, suitable for intermediate beginner to advanced painters, you will learn how to paint a snowy alpine scene with rustic cabin, winding path, and dramatic winter sky.  By the end of this workshop, participants will have an understanding of how to create a luminous winter landscape using transparent watercolour techniques; paint convincing snow with subtle colour temperature shifts; develop atmospheric perspective in mountain scenery; master soft cloud formations and winter skies; create texture in wooden structures and evergreen trees; use value contrast to guide the viewer's eye through the composition; and, preserve whites effectively without overworking the painting.
